Truly beautiful, ethereal, and haunting. Fantastic acting.

From the director of Nocturnal Animals, this is Tom Ford's directorial debut.
A Single Man most notably stars Colin Firth and Julianne Moore. Colin Firth plays a gay man in the 60s dealing with the loss of his partner. With its frequent flashbacks, it reminded me of Tom Ford's follow up film Nocturnal Animals and similarly to his most recent film, A Single Man had lots of messages tucked throughout the film.

My husband and I usually watch documentaries or films about real events. We found this film didn't match the promotion on the DVD jacket at all. There should be a warning that it contains material not suitable for those who don't want to watch homosexual activity. I believe children shouldn't constantly be exposed to the promotion of homosexuality. This film seems to do this and it never really mentions God or God's guidance to us as an alternative to homosexuality. We do make choices in life, and Jesus tells us there will be people who stray however they can come back to choosing to lead a life, through which they'll find real hope and inspiration.

Colin Firth played a gay English professor living in LA in the 60's. Well acted. And Julianne Moore had a small and unimportant part here too, trying her best to sound British. But the film didn't do much for me.

Did you ever have someone very close to you die? Were you told you were not welcome at the funeral? It remains a reality in most of the world. Colin Firth and Julianne Moore make it real. Having Nicholas Hoult adds to the mystery.

Colin Firth and Julianne Moore, actors worth watching in this poignant look at grieving and the search for meaning and connection.

(Bibliocommons has recently updated their flagged comments policy. And since they cannot retroactively restore flagged comments removed according to prior policy, patrons are told to re-post censored comments, since they would now fall under this new policy.) Don't fall for it, the DESCRIPTION is misleading. It does not disclose the fact that "his longtime partner" is another man. And, no, I am not "homophobic"--I am definitely not afraid of homosexuals, why should I? I just do not enjoy watching movies about homosexuals. If you do and enjoy watching a privileged man cry over a lost lover, well, this is the movie for you.

A new twist on Carpe diem. Poignant, well done.

Watched only a few minutes of this movie. I like Colin Firth as an actor, which is the reason I chose this movie. Very weird beginning, slow moving story. Did not watch this movie.

Cover intentionally misleads. This is about gay love, and Matthew Goode's face should have been on the cover art, rather than Julianne Moore's.

A story that centers on an English professor who, one year after the sudden death of his partner, is unable to cope with his typical days in 1960's Los Angeles.

Based on the same name novel by Christopher Isherwood , this film is a romantic story of love interrupted. The isolation that all of us feel , especially after the loss of a loved one, leads the way to recognizing the importance of the " little things " in life.

George: The bathroom's just down the hall, if you'd like to take a shower.
Kenny: Aren't you taking a shower too, Sir?
George: Oh, I'm fine, I'm English, we like to be cold and wet.
