While I found the travelogue part of the book too detailed and tedious, the parts detailing Cuban history were enlightening. The author has thoroughly researched her subject matter, and presents an excellent bibliography in the back of the book.

A must read if you are planning a trip "off resort" in Cuba. This feisty grandma is quite the tough traveller, and gives a very different perspective on Cuba than you usually read. I was in Cuba this Dec 2009 and fell in love with the people - just like Murphy did. Cuba is changing...
