It's September 12th, 2001, and New York City is at a standstill: somber, bleak and shocked in the aftermath of the World Trade Center attacks. Will knows he and his father are lucky to have escaped; others, like his best friend James' father are still missing . . . and soon presumed to be dead.

Poignant and dramatic, United We Stand is a young adult novel about heartache, self-discovery, and the power of friendship.

Great book. Eric Walters is an amazing author this book is the sequel to "We All Fall Down" which was also an amazing book. This book is kind of like the aftermath, how people coped, the damage all that stuff. I would recommend that you read the prequel first because you might be slightly confused by a few things. This book offers 9/11 from a teenagers point of view.

From "We All Fall down" to "United We Stand" They are both amazing reads with lots of heart put into them I recommend both book to everyone 12 and up just because how intense it can be i think anyone under 12 might not get it or will just be overwhelmed. Hope theirs a third just to see about James' father if theirs an amazing find.

Eric Walter's "United We Stand" is just a SUBLIME read for youth and anyone out there wanting a nice book full of emotion, discovery, friendship and healing. It is very realistic and the characters really bring you through a journey, you really feel like you are in the disaster zone after 9/11. Just a magnificent book.

this story had me wanting more from eric walters, to think that 7 years after 9/11,he writes a book and still reminds those who didnt get affected by 9/11, i was 3 wen 9/11 happened and still, today, i respect those who didnt make it out alive. i am 13 now and i cried wen i think about those who died, this story is about true friendship and helping each other out of hard time:(R.I.P those who died in 9/11

United We Stand is the sequel to Eric Walters' brilliant novel We All Fall Down. The action picks up the morning of September 12, 2001. Will and his father know that they are lucky to be alive after the collapse of twin towers. Will's friend James has still not heard from his father, a fireman last seen going up the stairs of tower two to rescue those still trapped above.

The action mostly follows Will as he tries to help James deal with his father being missing, and, increasingly, assumed dead. Through a variety of events, Will and James end up at ground zero where they both come face to face with the enormity of what has happened.

Walters has done a good job looking at what happens in the aftermath of a large, catastrophic event. He leads the reader through the impact of the terrorist attacks on individual people, neighbourhoods and the city as a whole. He seamlessly weaves real people into his narrative, giving us glimpses of Bush and Guilliani. He also has Will react in a natural way to the trauma he's been through.

If there is one fault in this book, it is that Walters spends a lot of time on the emotions of the characters, which may alienate fans of the first book who were looking for a similar action based narrative.
