Beauty Cookson is no beauty - she's a plain girl, surrounded by super-confident, snooty girls at school. But worse than the teasing in the playground is her father's temper. Eventually, after an unbearable birthday party and a very real fear that Dad's temper is out of control, Mum and Beauty run away.

I found this book to be totally unsuitable for any child. Not only does it contain explicit language, but it also has graphic scenes of abuse. I was sorely disappointed in this book and the author.

Beauty Cookson hates her name because she insists it doesn't fit someone as plain and awkward as she is. Her father rules the house and everyone in it. He constantly ridicules Beauty's mother. One day he does something so awful that both mother and daughter flee the house. They accidentally end up in Rabbit Cove where they find a place to live but how will Beauty's mother ever find a job that she can do? Reviewed by BPL volunteer LS
