These six fifty minute programs relate the experiences of German soldiers, mostly through excerpts from interviews, with narration to give a context. Each program focuses on one area of the military or a major phase of the war: pilots, submariners, infantrymen, but, excluded are normal mariners (in ships), those working in military intelligence and diplomacy, domestic policing, and those directly involved in mass killing of civilians (the holocaust). Nonetheless, its quite informative; it provides a point of view that is rarely heard (at least in north America).

Good. VERY GOOD! Because you hear the views from the frontsoldaten who were actually in/on the ground and not the leaders/perpetrators of the second world war. Regretfully, no concentration camp guards were found and interviewed.

This is a 6-PART 300-minute documentary about the German veterans and HItler's war.
In April 1945, the Red Army stood at the gates of Berlin.
Inside the shattered city were only the pathetic remnants of the Home Guard, the Hitler Youth and the SS Wehrmacht.
Berlin and its population lay at the mercy of the Russians who had been exacting a terrible revenge---including coutless rapes.
How did those Germans fight at the near-end of the war?
How did they feel?
How were they thinking?
You can hear the voices of those pathetic people.

A unique series of overviews as seen from the other side !!

Each theme is explored from its beginnings before the war and follows its development over the course of WW2.
The talking heads are all 'grunts', who were actually there. (ie. ...there are no Officer Experts.)

A must see for anyone interested in history.

disc 1. Blitzkrieg : unleashing the nightmare ; The Luftwaffe : messengers of death ; The Waffen SS : the alibi for history
disc 2. U-boats : iron coffins ; Russia : the unholy war ; Defending Berlin : the last battles

I only wish that they had done one about the all important 'Hitler's Youth' movement.

Excellent WWII documentary as seen through the common German soldiers eyes. Uniquely free of bias and ulterior motives, it tells it like it was in a fresh and informative way. Lots of great footage!
