"A saga of daring deeds and unlikely romance."
--Library Journal

One of the most respected writers in the field of speculative fiction, Lois McMaster Bujold has won numerous accolades and awards, including the Nebula and Locus Awards as well as the fantasy and science fiction genre's most prestigious honor, the Hugo Award for Best Novel, four times (most recently for Paladin of Souls). With The Sharing Knife series, Bujold creates a brand new world fraught with peril, and spins an extraordinary romance between a young farm girl and the brave sorcerer-soldier entrusted with the defense of the land against a plague of vicious malevolent beings. Legacy continues the tale of Fawn Bluefield and Dag Redwing Hickory--the dangerous repercussions of their rebellious marriage and the strengthening of their love in the face of dark magic--as duty and disaster call the Lakewalker patroller away from his new bride and toward a peril that could forever alter the lovers and their world.

I liked seeing more of Fawn and Dag's story; their determination to have a life together despite his family not accepting her. It was also interesting to see more of the Lakewalker culture and magic.

I concur with 20KBT10. This gently woven romance/fantasy continues in much the same way as it started (see my review of Beguilement). There is just enough fantasy action to keep an interesting couple's struggle against prejudice worthwhile to non romance readers. Subtract 1/2 a star if you shun romance or add 1/2 a star if you enjoy it.

The story continues, and its still about honour, struggle and love. Beautifully woven, it’s a fight against tradition and misperceptions, the bonds of family, discovery and awareness stemming from new experiences and the continued fight against evil. It’s sweet and powerful and robust, all at the same time. Really pleasing, all around.

He’d grown so accustomed to her companionship in so few weeks, as if she’d always been there, or had slotted into some hollow place within him just her shape that had been waiting for years.
