Twenty years ago, four teenagers at summer camp walked into the woods at night. Two were found murdered, and the others were never seen again. Four families had their lives changed forever. Now, two decades later, they are about to change again. For Paul Copeland, the county prosecutor of Essex, New Jersey, mourning the loss of his sister has only recently begun to subside. Cope, as he is known, is now dealing with raising his six- year-old daughter as a single father after his wife has died of cancer. Balancing family life and a rapidly ascending career as a prosecutor distracts him from his past traumas, but only for so long. When a homicide victim is found with evidence linking him to Cope, the well-buried secrets of the prosecutor’s family are threatened. Is this homicide victim one of the campers who disappeared with his sister? Could his sister be alive? Cope has to confront so much he left behind that summer twenty years ago: his first love, Lucy; his mother, who abandoned the family; and the secrets that his Russian parents might have been hiding even from their own children. Cope must decide what is better left hidden in the dark and what truths can be brought to the light.

Another excellent book by Coben. Lots of action together with an intriguing plot makes this highly recommendable.

My favourite Coben book so far. I was worried that I'd guessed the twist quite early on but the plot was more complicated than that, thank goodness! Interesting from the first chapter.

Another great suspense novel by Harlan Coben!

This book lacks little in suspense. It tosses and turns the reader through the world of Paul Copeland the family secrets that haunt him years after his sister's mysterious death. This book is a fast and fun read.

Very enjoyable - hard to put down. Fast paced with lots of dialogue which Coben has an affinity. A homicide victim's identity is linked to the past and to murders of young campers in the woods of 20 years ago. District prosecutor is involved and family connections are revealed

Boring. Badly written. Cobden writes as if it is a struggle. Please someone make him stop

After discovering Paul Copeland in another Harlan Coben novel, I was excited to find him in this one as well. While Paul is still mourning the death of his wife and trying to juggle single parenthood with a demanding job, he is confronted by his past. A corpse has turned up in the morgue of a man who should be dead 20 years. And the other thing is that this man was with Paul''s murdered sister twently years ago. Confusing? Yes. Intiguing? You bet! And to unravel this case, Paul will have to unravel some buried family secrets as well.
