The love story warms my heart. It is a struggle and tension between morality, family responsibility, true love, and personal happiness. Like both Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood! Two thumbs up!!

The movie, thank goodness, is better than the book. What's more surprising is that The Bridges of Madison County is an accomplished piece of movie making.

Produced and directed by Clint Eastwood, this is a 1995 American romantic drama based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Robert James Waller.
The story in the diaries reveals the impact the affair had on the lives of a farm woman and a National Geographic photographer.
The affair took place while her husband and children were at the state fair in Illinois.
She almost ran away with him to travel the world with him.
After a wrenching period of decision-making, however, she decided to stay at the last minute after considering the bigger picture that includes the consequences leaving would have on the lives of her teenage children and husband, who was a good, loving man.
After all the photographer finds meaning and his true calling as an artist.
It also has deep consequences on the lives of her son and daughter, who are both experiencing marital problems.
Their mother’s story helped them to find a sense of direction in their lives.
It is an old-fashioned love story with some meanings in terms of the present day context.
Superb are the performances of Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep.

I don't care how much of a "beautiful love story" it look's like, or how great Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep look together. Ultimately, it's nothing but glorification of adultery. It's trash.

Meryl Streep is simply magnificent in "The Bridges of Madison County". She takes the role of a Italian young war bride. You never for a minute think Meryl Streep is not Italian. Her accent is so perfect. She acts so shy and unpretentious. Clint Eastwood plays his part as a traveling photographer perfectly. He is kind and appreciative of her attention to him. I even feel that Clint might have felt his character had been in this situation before. I hope both Eastwood and Streep feel this is one of their best movies. I certainly walked away thinking about the two of them.

This is an old-fashioned romance story done some 20 years ago. As far as I am concerned it still retains its charm. A 4-day, intense relationship between a housewife and a roaming photographer forms the basis of this story of forbidden love. Two humans were connected, deeply, in an unusual circumstance, and then had to part forever. The religious rednecks may find this kind of relationship offensive, but I am sympathetic to their plight.

I rarely praise romantic comedies. As a genre, they have a collective stain smeared across them, but I must give credit where it's due. THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY is expertly written and acted by two professionals who know that drama is an art. Recommended to everyone, at least one viewing in a lifetime.

For those in touch with their soul, this is a nice movie to enjoy and realize that sometimes what the heart longs for isn't in your household. Not promoting infidelity, just be selective in your choice of partner or you'll be looking elsewhere to meet your heart's vacancy.

A timeless, cinematic masterpiece. Heartwrenching story of love and loss, of sacrifice, of what "might've been". Meryl Streep is absolutely extraordinary. Directed, produced, and an exceptional performance by Clint Eastwood. Sweet, smooth jazz soundtrack by Johnny Hartman. Magnificent. FIVE STARS.
