Free-wheeling irresponsible Maggie gets through her life thanks to her remarkable looks and her complete lack of scruples. She constantly goes to her straight-laced, plain-Jane successful lawyer sister Rose when she is in need of financial help. The two sisters have been very close to each other in part because their troubled mother died when they were girls. Maggie discovers hidden letters that reveal she and Rose have a grandmother, but Maggie ends up betraying Rose's trust. Maggie sets off for Florida to find the grandmother. A failed workplace romance forces Rose to rethink her career, a career that has been the center of her life. As Rose tentatively begins a new relationship and Maggie gets to know her grandmother, the two learn a dark family secret that helps smooth the path toward reconciliation.

More of a drama than a comedy. Good pacing, interesting character development, plot holes were not too badly managed.

I have absolutely no idea how the person who wrote the blurb on the box decided this was a comedy. It's quite a dark family drama, although it does have a few funny bits. Colette terrific as always; Maclaine doing her wise grandma schtick; Diaz much better than usual, too bad she doesn't act like this in other films. Overall ok but not particularly recommended.

Interesting movie, we enjoyed it this weekend.

My all-time favorite movie which really hits home with me. If you have sisters, this is a must-see about your differences and your bonds. Love Diaz and Collette, always!

I wasn't really looking forward to watching "In Her Shoes," as I thought it was just another rom-com with Diaz, but I was pleasantly surprised. This film has many great themes. It deals with mental illness, death, and of course, relationships.

This was a movie that just happened to be on T.V and I wound up loving it. I have seen it a bunch of times one of my favorites. Goes to show you that sometimes you have that family isn't always the easiest to handle. Cameron Diaz surprised me in this movie I thought she just chose to play in silly ditzy films but this showed she could step it up a bit.

Fun, with great performances by Cameron Diaz and Toni Collette. Shirley Maclaine reminded me of my mother, which was both moving and scary. Much less about shoes than I'd thought. Mark Feuerstein plays a dreamy love interest who has a gift for ordering at restaurants.

A great story of family and friendship. I do not, however, understand two things:
1. why did the older sister have to leave her job as a lawyer?
2. how are her engagement and subsequent marriage important for the plot?

good sister drama

This was a good movie - easy to watch, interesting relationships, good ending...but I didn't know that it was based on a book, so I'll have to check it out and read it.

As another reader mentioned, I too had a copy that was scratched and tended to skip & freeze during the middle of the movie. At one point it even jumped me ahead 20 minutes and I had no idea what was going on.
