whaler rider is up there, with the very best, Ninotchka, Captain Fantastic, It's a wonderful life.
Inspiring, the story of a girl that in spite of all odds, came through for herself and her people.
Highly recommended, 5 stars, no question about it. You'll be uplifted

Whale Rider is a beautiful, sad and inspiring film about community, family, history, tradition and leadership. I highly recommend it for teens and for adults of all ages. The performance by Keisha Castle-Hughes is excellent and heartbreaking. I have not read the teen fiction book The Whale Rider on which it was based. The movie may also be streamed through the OverDrive online resource available through Hennepin County Library. Whale Rider is rated PG-13 for brief language and a momentary drug reference.

Well done. 12 year old girl touches your heart. Much more believable than "Life of Pi".

Good movie..... mostly, I found it sort of depressing that the grandfather almost punished Paikea for being a girl. I practicly cried when she was doing that preformance for him and he wasn't there;(

If you like magical tales of a twelve year old Maori girl who threatens established male barriers, then this is your cup of tea. I found it just a little bit like the Gospel According to Matilda; a bit preachy. Nonetheless it had its moments.
