Seven years ago, Dr. Sam Russell's young wife vanished from their Boston home only to be found a week later strangled and stabbed. It was Sam who was arrested and tried for the crime. A hung jury set him free, but the rumors have never gone away: Sam Russell. Doctor. Husband. Cold-blooded murderer. Now the nightmare is happening again. Sam wakes up in his car on an unfamiliar road with no memory of how he got there. There's dried blood under his fingernails. A woman's shoe in his trunk. His new wife is missing. As a cop, Hannah Montgomery knows the husband is always the best suspect; as a woman, she's got her doubts. She's got to get close to Sam, see if he'll trust her enough to slip up. But as she delves deeper, shocking secrets come to light, exposing a tangled web of deceit and betrayal that make Hannah wonder whether she's protecting a wronged man--or a cold-blooded killer.
