A delightful little book that I read in one day. Didn't realize it was a quick read book!

really enjoyed this book. Couldn't help but cheer for quiet Alice and how she patiently and effectively befriended her son's friend who everyone thought was no good , to get what she wanted. And changed her life , her husband's and her self esteem in the process. Quiet ways are most times so much better than being a bully.

Really, really, really light read. I got through it in one night. Not memorable. Do not recommend. Wondering at the phenom that Trollope seems to be - the only really great book of hers I've read is Daughters in Law. Will give her a bit more of a chance but this one was sort of a big fat nothing.

She looked at her face again. She knew it so well she could hardly see it. She was very tired of it, too.

She make him feel that, if he was a fool, he was only a little fool.

Well, he was a bully and, like all bullies, he was weak really, weak underneath.
