This is a love song devoted to that special relationship between grandparents and grandchild.
The kitchen window at Nanna and Poppy's house is, for one little girl, a magic gateway. Everything important happens near it, through it, or beyond it. Told in her voice, her story is both a voyage of discovery and a celebration of the commonplace wonders that define childhood, expressed as a joyful fusion of text with evocative and exuberant illustrations. The world for this little girl will soon grow larger and more complex, but never more enchanting or deeply felt.

I agree this is a lovely title! Just to clarify, though, it's a Caldecott rather than a Newbery winner.

Parents, I think this is a great book. The illustrations in the book are phenomenal. All of the pictures appear to be drawn by hand, which adds character to the book in my opinion. This is a Newbery Award winning book, and it deserves all of the praise it received, and is still receiving. Sometimes children have something at their grandparent’s home they may only see there, and think it is the most amazing thing in the world. Parents if your children have a relationship with their grandparents, or even if they do not, this funny book is sure to please anyone.

The kitchen window at little girls Nanna and Poppy’s home is a window of magic to her. This is a story told trough both the eyes, and voice of a little girl. The book shows the love her grandparents have for her, and the adventure both her and her grandparents go on everyday with the magic window.

“Sometimes Poppy says in a real loud voice, HELLO, WORLD! WHAT HAVE YOU GOT FOR US TODAY?” The kitchen is where Nanna and Poppy are most of the time. So you can climb up on the flower barrel and tap the window.” Just before I go up to bed, Nanna turns off all the lights and we stand by the window and say good night to the stars.”
