I will be gifting this book to new mamas in the future. It takes time and patience but if you start implementing the strategies when baby is a newborn, you will reap the fruit of your labour after a couple months. My daughter, who has been co-sleeping with us, used to fight naps and take forever to fall asleep at night. She is now starting to fall asleep PEACEFULLY ON HER OWN IN THE CRIB. I also recommend the Huckleberry Sleep app which is very useful for tracking sleep.

I appreciate the sentiment behind this book, but if you are looking for a way to get a baby that keeps on waking up back to sleep quickly this isn't for you. In a world where the family has infinite patience and can deal with being up for a long time repeatedly getting the baby to self-soothe but not freak out this'd be great. In the sleep-deprived negazone existence where my partner and I currently exist it isn't as helpful as we'd like.

I think this is a great book. It brings together some helpful ideas I've read in various places (other books, online) and offers some new insight. It is easy to read, succinct, and reasonable. My baby is less than 3 months old and he seems to be becoming a better sleeper and napper already. I hope that implementing some of the gentle strategies outlined in this book now will help us down the road. I currently wonder, if more people read this kind of book early on, would they need to resort to using more drastic measures (such as Ferber, Extinction) later on? I like how the big messages are patience, acceptance of babies unique nature as they grow and mature and that you know your baby best. The author provides the ideas, you decide how to put them into action. She is pro-attachment parenting but not in a loud or preachy way. Recommend.

I would have to rate this book as "okay". There were definitely not clear cut instructions on how to get your baby to sleep through the night. It is simply a bunch of ideas about how to improve baby's sleep. However, the author provides a number of tables that you can use to track your baby's sleep patterns and I found those helpful.

Personally, not a big fan of this book. There were really no step-by-step or clear cut solutions in this book. Basically, she advocates breaking transitions into steps (rocking --> intermittent rocking --> holding --> holding child in crib --> hand on child in crib --> child sleeping alone). The author didn't seem to have the in-depth knowledge of the science behind sleep as some others do.

Finally a sleep book that offers practical advice for how to get my baby to sleep instead of just saying- lay the baby down before he's too tired. Love the new ideas!

First of all: do NOT expect a clear cut solution by reading this book. This book is more of a compilation of ideas to try for you to solve your own sleep problem. It won't tell you step by step what to do in your unique situation, but it gives you a list of things to try -- most of them are common sense and what you have already done anyway as any sensible parents would do.

With that said, it has lots of good advice and worth picking up. Think of this book as another tool in your tool box to help your child sleep.

This is a great book with great information in it. I totally agree with the author in that there are many solutions other than just "letting your baby cry" that are not cruel but rather teach you how to teach your baby how to sleep. I didn't bother with making the suggested sleep logs and just used the tips and they work! I would urge anyone even considering letting their babies cry to please read this first.

Toooo gentle! Didn't help with either of my children. Tables with sleep amounts needed were useful.

Really liked the philosophy behind the method. Really easy to read (especially when sleep deprived!) Handy worksheets to help make your own personal sleep plan for your baby, and great advice for the parent who doesn't want to let their baby "cry it out" to sleep.
