a bit too "clever", interesting to see Canadian politics a bit, story not very compelling or surprising

Could not get into this book. Start McLean did humour so much better. Gosh how I miss him. Always loved going to his shows.

Funny book about Canadian politics. How I wish we could have some candidates like Angus who really try to do the right thing rather than blindly follow the party line on every issue.

Fallis’ style is overblown, farcical and a fun read (Stephen Leacock Humour Award) as he takes the mickey out of the hysterics of Canadian (or any other country’s) politics. Fallis uses a 60 year old Engineering prof, who wins the election…

First there was // Mr. Smith Goes to Washington \\ now there is // Angus Goes to Ottawa \\. Charming, the keyword is charming - - a charmingly humorous book on another side of Canadian politics - - pass the Molsons, please.

Excellent book! I was considering stopping after a shortway through due to the emphasis on politics, however I couldn't actually put the book down and made it through to the end. It was delightful and witty, stimulating, and informative. …

Hilarious and heartwarming - a winning combination. Perfect read to get a sense of what may be going on behind Canadian election antics. Ordered the sequel, can hardly wait!

Based on other reviews I looked forward to reading this book. I gave it my best shot, reading about a third of the way through. This kind of humour and writing style was fresh when Stephen Leacock did it. I found it pedantic and wordy and…

I really enjoyed this book. Some really funny, laugh out loud sections (if you enjoy toilet humour). Politics doesn't usually interest me, but Fallis made it interesting.

A charming, funny, good read. A perfect relief from an election race if you're suffering through one where you are.

Eventhough the ending was a little predictable, the book club really enjoyed this read. It is funny and the characters are likeable. Also gave some rudimentary insight into Canadian politics and has good content for discussion.

Winner of the 2008 Stephen Leacock Award for Humour and the top pick in CBC Radio's 2011 Canada Reads, this clever political satire is the story of a burnt-out political aide who quits just before an election, but is forced to run a…

One out of 400 books irritate me enough that I do not see them through to the end. This was one. It was the continuing flatulence jokes that finally made me not want to waste further time.

I have never laughed so hard in my entire life! Funniest book I have ever read by far. Terry Fallis manages to make politics interesting and engages the reader from start to finish. Highly recommend, and the sequel "The High Road."

A humourous look at Canadian politics. I loved Angus and found myself wishing that there were more politicians like him in real life. I look forward to reading the sequel, “The High Road”.

I normally cannot bear politicians and cannot stand to hear them open their mouths for more than half a sentence. And I never read political books. So, it's odd that I even tried this one. But I did, and I ended up liking it. Maybe if…
