The prose is good for the fighting and battles, but it comes off as nonsensical rambles when all the characters are doing is moving from one place to another. The main character is barely a character and I often forgot he was a part of the…

This story simply doesn't deliver. This is 300 pages of word vomit to over describe plains, deserts, mountains and forests. Which becomes painfully hard to read only a few chapters in. The long-winded dialogues from the judge are headache…

I might not be intelligent or wise enough to grasp the higher concepts which this book may present. It was a hard read, but worth the effort. As stated elsewhere, it is bloody and violent. It is also thought-provoking.

Unrelentingly brutal and violent and populated with mostly unlovable and unredeemable characters. As usual McCarthys writing is outstanding and the descriptions of the unforgiving but beautiful terrain truly builds an indelible image in…

The prose is gorgeous; the plot relentless, unforgiving, beyond violent. There is an interesting balance- between the gorgeous prose and a debased impartiality. Hard to read, and hard to put down. Makes you wonder- how can someone think…

this book was highly anticipated for me.. it did not deliver.. too many characters and he spoke in a tone i'm not familiar with.. at the end of the day..i'm just not a McCarthy fan

As bleak as one expects a book by McCarthy, Blood Meridian immerses the reader into the ugliness of humanity. We follow a group of men that murder, rape, rob and scalp their way through the paradoxically beautiful Mexican-American deserts.…

finally got around to this after all the pretty horses years ago. his narrative voice is characteristically strong and compelling, but the plot seemed to be something to slog through in the middle after brilliant opening and before equally…

Blood Meridian is quite possibly the goriest and darkest book I have ever read. Although the summary of the book is about the protagonist "the Kid" being part of a gang that scalps Indians in Mexico, I feel that is an understatement of the…

Upon reading "On the Road" by McCarthy, I had high expectations for McCarthy's other books especially for "Blood Meridian" as it had high ratings, but after reading half of the book which felt more like a chore than a leisure activity I…

This book is considered the magnus opus of McCarthy and for good reason. The complexity of the characters was the compelling factor that allowed me to finish the book. However, do be cautious when choosing to read this book as it is…

Bloody and violent, and managing to be simultaneously engrossed in and dethatched from the darkness of the story, this was definitely a heavy read. Following a runaway boy known throughout the novel as The Kid, the story centers around his…

This was my second reread of the book. This time I listened to the book. "Blood Meridian: or the Evening Redness in the West" by Cormac McCarthy gets better with every read through. The book ranks with other books in my estimation such…

An epic bloody psychedelic nightmare that unveils the nightmarish western frontier as it was, leaves no party unscathed and gives us one of the greatest literary villans of all time.

What an artifact. I failed my first attempt to read this book twelve years ago; it was just too daunting. Blood Meridian’s language can be intimidating. McCarthy’s sparse use of punctuation combined with his endless supply of archaic…

Haunting, visceral, and unflinchingly violent, this is the best written book I've read in a while. The juxtaposition between the gorgeous depictions of the American southwest and the gore and bloody violence is striking. I can't say I can…

Violent, surreal, and timeless. I have nothing but good things to say about this book. Cormac McCarthy does a great job of capturing the spirit of the antebellum US-Mexican border, with the adventures of the main character, "the Kid"…

This is a story about violence and about, well, not about how it changes a person, because the Kid in this tale doesn't really seem to change that much, but about what it is like to live immersed in it, to be a person who seeks out…

This book is exhausting. It's hard to read... like the words are hard. I needed a dictionary. But the payoff is great. Some of the passages will stay with me forever. I would almost describe it as cinematic. Anyways, much has been written…

All I have to say: I don't recommend reading the forward by Harold Bloom. Not only does he give away the ending, but in casual manner which really chapped my hide.

Bleak and beyond violent, but rich and textural. It makes his more popular novel, The Road, seem downright warm and fuzzy by comparison. Judge Holden is up there with Hannibal Lecter as one of the most cold-blooded characters in…

Quite possibly the most chilling and horrifying book ever written, 'Blood Meridian' is a unnerving glimpse of humanity at its worst during one of the most savage periods in American history. McCarthy pulls back the curtain to reveal the…
