Unnatural creatures was a pretty substantial collection of stories, some more entertaining than others. There were many stories that I enjoyed, but several that I had to force myself to read. If you want to start this novel, you have to be ready to make a good sized commitment, because it's five hundred or so page length is kind of intimidating at first. Something I liked about this book was the length of the stories. They were long enough to make a consistent and full length tale, but not so long that you begin to lose interest. Overall, solid 6/10.Unnatural creatures was a pretty substantial collection of stories, some more entertaining than others. This is a book about Jaime, and his cousin Angela escaping from their hometown in Guatemala after Angela's brother, Miguel, is killed by a gang called "The Alphas". Their main goal is to reach Jaime's older brother, Tomas, who lives in The United states. They find friends (and even a dog) along the way, and travel through horrible conditions and traumatizing events, all to get to Estados Unido. The tension in certain scenes felt when they were about to risk something important, such as their lives, or make an escape from a train car, or cross the border feels like you are their yourself. Overall 9/10 really good book. This is a book about Jaime, and his cousin Angela escaping from their hometown in Guatemala after Angela's brother, Miguel, is killed by a gang called "The Alphas". This book is entertaining as well as educational. Three children from different time periods and different areas of the world all become refugees after a horrific event in their home country. Mahmoud is fleeing Syria in 2014, from the civil war that is still going on. Him, his brother Waleed, his mother, and is sister Hana, must leave Syria after a bomb hits their apartment complex, destroying the front wall. They plan to make it all they way to Germany, but have to go through several countries, (and a sea) to get there. Mahmoud's story was my personal favorite, as it seemed to have the most thought and energy put into it. Isabel is a Cuban girl in 1994, fleeing due to a mass starvation following the fall of the Soviet Union. Isabel, her pregnant mother, father, and her best friends family (The Castíllos) flee on a homemade boat and encounter many problems and tragedies along the way. This particular story had the least entertainment value for me, because even though it was based on a true story, I feel that the fact that this whole tale took place only on the open ocean was a little bit bland and repetitive. Unlike Mahmoud's, which took place in many different countries. Josef is a boy from Germany in 1939, who's family house is invaded by Nazis on Kristallnacht. Josef's father is taken to the concentration camp Dachau and was miraculously released six months later. They agree to meet at the docking station for the M.S. St. Louis, a ship set to take them to Cuba, where they can eventually get to the U.S. This story was not my favorite, but was still good, as it didn't have as little entertainment value as Isabel's. There is a twist at the end of Josef's story which I'm still making my mind up about how I liked it, which totally changes the whole story. Overall, this book is a must read for anyone interested in any of these three time periods or places, or just history in general. This book has a really cool author's note, which mentions who all of the characters were inspired by. Alan Gratz is also a great author, with other amazing titles such as Projekt-1065. Refugee is an absolutely amazing book that needs to be read by anyone who likes to read. 11/10 in my book without a doubt. This book is entertaining as well as educational. This book was a really amazing true story about overcoming the difficulty of polio. Peg Kehret tells her story in such a great way, that it really makes you feel for her younger self, and it makes you want to read more. She describes her roommates in such vivid detail and gives you such a good mental picture of how they are as a person. This book talks about how scary it was to first be diagnosed with polio (let alone 3 kinds of it) and the greatness of when she was able to walk again. The metaphors she uses to describe emotions are also beautifully presented and placed. Overall, I give this book a 9.6/10This book was a really amazing true story about overcoming the difficulty of polio. This is amazing book about Tasuku Kaname, who is outed as gay at school. He is made fun of and ridiculed for the rest of that school day. He finds a drop-in center, owned by a mysterious Someone-San, where he soon finds family among the various members of the center. This is a sweet story with a heart wrenching storyline, and terrific character development. The story is believable, and seems like it could actually be a real story. I would highly recommend this to anyone who loves manga, and I would even go as far as to call it a must-read. 10/10This is amazing book about Tasuku Kaname, who is outed as gay at school. This series is an amazing, lighthearted and sometimes dark manga. If you like shounen stuff this is definitely for you. I have read the whole series (95 volumes) and I could not have spent my time in a better way. you have to read them all though, because the story evolves so much and the characters feel more and more real. The fights are well written and thought out, the story is a tad repetitive, but the next arc totally redeems the story with an original, exciting arc. Monkey D. Luffy and sets off on a journey to find the legendary treasure, the one piece. But first, he needs a crew. He travels to various islands, picking up new people to join his pirate crew, and fighting a powerful pirate along the way. One particular villain that stuck with me is Big Mom, or Charlotte Linlin, who is absolutely obsessed with sweets. Like, she's killed people for a cream puff. With some legitimately sad moments that made me want to cry a little bit. The fights are super cool and make you get excited for Luffy to win. This manga is the highest on my list and is an absolute 10/10 by my standards. I highly recommend it.This series is an amazing, lighthearted and sometimes dark manga. This game is amazing. The graphics look pretty good, the story is fun, and the fighting mechanics are really well done. This game does not deserve the hate it gets. The fighting gets a little bit repetitive but its not a huge problem. Sometimes there is minor lag but that's only when your internet isn't stable. This book is amazing. All of the short stories are amazingly put together and each teach their own lesson. I read this book for school last year and i was simply blown away by how amazing the book itself was. I didn't expect much from it, but it was an amazing story that i would rate a solid 10/10. My personal favorite story is about Lingsi, a chinese slave girl who gets captured by pirates. That's all that i'll say about this book for now, but you should definitely give it a read yourself. This book is amazing. I have to say, I did not enjoy this book. It was hard to follow, and the story jumped from point to point. The characters didn't really develop, and there wasn't a story arc at all. I'm not much of a poetry person, but this just wasn't for me. The book was formatted in an odd way too, with sentences not always ending with a punctuation or no commas where they should be. I will have to say, once you piece together the story, it is a very sweet and sad story. I do not recommend this book if you do not like poetry, but if you enjoy poetry, you might really like this book. That was my honest review of this book.I have to say, I did not enjoy this book. Phillip Hoose does a great job telling the story of the lesser known symbol of hope, Claudette Colvin. Colvin is a 15 year old girl born during the time of the fight for equal rights. When she refuses to give her seat to a white woman, she is grabbed and beaten by police officers and the arrested. This story shows the true story of the movement, and how Claudette did the same thing as Rosa Parks, but she wasn’t nearly as well known or praised. I recommend this book if you are into historic books and the stories of our past.Phillip Hoose does a great job telling the story of the lesser known symbol of hope, Claudette Colvin.
